Game overview

What this wiki covers

Grand Theft Auto Vice City oceanfront skyline with pastel towers, palm trees, and a sunset beach

PlayStation 2 owned the 3D Grand Theft Auto years: GTA III in 2001, Vice City in 2002, San Andreas in 2004, then the Stories ports. This wiki is the DualShock 2 code book for that library. Start with the codes hub, then learn how to enter cheats without pausing, spawn a Rhino tank or jetpack, and read the save-file warnings before you overwrite a 100% run. Rankings live on the tier list. The cheat finder groups the same effects across games, and fake codes calls out lists that mix PC words into a PS2 pad.

Quick start

Four steps from a fresh memory card to a working weapon set.

  1. 1

Pick the disc in your tray

Codes do not cross games. Open San Andreas, Vice City, GTA III, Liberty City Stories, or Vice City Stories and stay on that list.

  2. 2

Save to a spare slot first

Riot, attack, and some weather codes cannot be toggled off. Read the save-file warnings and keep a clean story save on another slot.

  3. 3

Enter the combo in live play

Do not pause. Use the D-pad, not the analog stick. Follow how to enter cheats until you hear the confirmation sting.

  4. 4

    Grab weapons, then a vehicle

Start with weapon sets or vehicle spawns, then a Rhino tank or the San Andreas jetpack. Clear heat with wanted level cheats and restock with health and money.

FAQ

Wiki FAQ

Quick answers for DualShock 2 codes, saves, and fake lists.

Do GTA PS2 cheats use the same buttons on every game?

No. Weapon-set shapes look similar, but GTA III starts many codes with R2, R2, while Vice City and San Andreas often start with R1, R2. Always open the page for the disc you are playing from the codes hub.

Is there a money cheat in Vice City on PS2?

No. The original PlayStation 2 Vice City build has health and armor codes, not a cash drop. Lists that promise millions of dollars are mixing in San Andreas, GTA III, or PC keyboard words. See fake codes.

Should I save after entering cheats?

Keep a clean story save. Some pedestrian codes never turn off, and a cheated file can lock you out of a calm 100% run. Details are on save-file warnings.

Are PS2 button codes the same as PC or Definitive Edition?

PlayStation button combos are shared across many later PlayStation ports, but PC types words such as HESOYAM. A few original effects were removed from The Definitive Edition. Compare them in PS2 vs PC codes.

How do I spawn a tank or a jetpack?

The Rhino combo is different in GTA III than in San Andreas. The jetpack exists only in San Andreas. Use how to spawn a tank and how to get the jetpack.

Is this an official Rockstar wiki?

No. This is a fan-made DualShock 2 reference. Confirm story and product details on the [Rockstar Grand Theft Auto site](https://www.rockstargames.com/grandtheftauto).

Ready to break Liberty City, Vice City, and San Andreas?

Open the codes hub for the game in your tray, or start with how to enter cheats if you have never used a DualShock 2 combo. Keep a clean save, then experiment.
