GTA PS2 Cheat Codes
DualShock 2 button lists for every 3D Grand Theft Auto on PlayStation 2, plus fake-code warnings.
This hub is the DualShock 2 index for the PlayStation 2 Grand Theft Auto library. Codes do not travel from disc to disc. A weapon dump that starts R1, R2 in San Andreas is not the same string as the R2, R2 opener in GTA III. Open the page for the game in the tray and stay on that list until you hear the confirmation sting.
Story campaigns in these games are single-player. The original discs shipped between 2001 and 2007: GTA III in 2001, Vice City in 2002, San Andreas in 2004, Liberty City Stories on PS2 in 2006, and Vice City Stories on PS2 in 2007. Nothing on this wiki is an unreleased title, an online lobby, or a typed PC word such as HESOYAM. Button names below always mean the DualShock 2 pad: R1, R2, L1, L2, X, Square, Triangle, Circle, Up, Down, Left, Right.
How DualShock 2 codes work
Enter every combo during live gameplay. Do not open the pause menu, the map, or a save prompt. Use the D-pad for directions, not the left analog stick. Analog flicks are the number one reason a published combo feels broken. If the sting does not play, stop, let CJ, Tommy, Claude, Toni, or Vic stand still, and enter the sequence again from the first button. Full timing notes live in how to enter cheats and the controls page.
PC players type words. PS2 players tap buttons. Mixing those languages is how fake lists are born. HESOYAM is a keyboard string, not a pad combo. The DualShock equivalent in San Andreas is the health, armor, and $250k row on that game page. Compare the two input styles in PS2 vs PC codes before you trust a screenshot that shows a keyboard.
Five games, five lists
Use this table as the map, then jump into the child page. Each child page carries the full DualShock table for that disc, plus notes on what you should not save.
| Game (PS2) | Year | What the list is for | Page |
|---|---|---|---|
| Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas | 2004 | Largest code book: cash, three weapon sets, jetpack, Hydra, Hunter | San Andreas PS2 cheats |
| Grand Theft Auto: Vice City | 2002 | Fifty-four combos; no cash drop; no god mode | Vice City PS2 cheats |
| Grand Theft Auto III | 2001 | About twenty-three combos, including $250k and a six-Circle Rhino | GTA III PS2 cheats |
| Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories | 2006 | Shorter pad strings; some effects cannot toggle | Liberty City Stories PS2 cheats |
| Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories | 2007 | 1984 Vice; PSP multiplayer unlocks are not PS2 story cheats | Vice City Stories PS2 cheats |
Weapon dumps look similar across the 3D games, but the openers and the guns in each slot change. If you only want brass knuckles versus a minigun, skip the game hubs and open the comparison at weapon sets. For Rhino, Hydra, Hunter, and Hotring strings in one table, use vehicle cheats. Rank what is actually useful on a story save with the tier list, then split mission-friendly codes from chaos cheats.
Fake codes and mixed-platform lists
The most common lie on a Vice City PS2 page is a money cheat. The original PlayStation 2 Vice City build has health and armor. It does not drop cash. It does not grant invincibility. Lists that promise millions of dollars, a god-mode toggle, or a jetpack in Vice City are borrowing from San Andreas, from GTA III, or from PC keyboard words. Those fakes are collected on fake codes so this hub can stay on real DualShock strings.
The cheat finder groups the same effect across games when the effect actually exists. Use it when you remember a tank but not which disc. Do not use it as an excuse to type a PC word into a PS2 pad.
Magazine scans are another trap. Some print the San Andreas jetpack as Left, Right, L1, L2, R1, R2, Up, Down, Left, Right. Long-standing PlayStation lists start that same spawn Up, Down, Left, Right, L1, L2, R1, R2, Up, Down, Left, Right. Both strings appear in the wild. The San Andreas page documents both; try the GTAbase-style sequence first. The jetpack exists only in San Andreas. There is no DualShock jetpack in Vice City, GTA III, or either Stories disc.
Weapon sets, tanks, and the jetpack
Three games after GTA III ship weapon set 1, set 2, and set 3 as separate combos. GTA III instead dumps the entire 2001 arsenal in one string that starts R2, R2, L1, R2. Entering a later set replaces the previous guns in shared slots. If you want a minigun, you usually want set 3. If you want a quiet early loadout, stay on set 1. Details and slot-by-slot contents are on weapon sets.
The Rhino tank is the shared heavy spawn. The button string is not shared. GTA III uses six Circle presses before R1. Vice City and San Andreas share a twelve-button Rhino that starts Circle, Circle, L1. Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories each have their own eight-button tank. Walk through the differences in how to spawn a tank instead of forcing a San Andreas combo onto Portland.
The jetpack is San Andreas only. If a list shows a jetpack next to Tommy Vercetti, it is wrong. Use how to get the jetpack after you have a spare save.
Saving, riots, and codes you cannot toggle
Save to a spare memory-card slot before you experiment. Riot, pedestrian-attack, and some weather or traffic paints often cannot be toggled off. A six-star wanted code can be cleared later; a city-wide riot usually cannot. If you overwrite a 100% slot with a riot running, that slot is the riot now. Read save-file warnings before you touch Square on the save menu.
A clean rule that survives all five discs: keep one story slot that has never heard a cheat sting, and dump the chaos onto slot two. Health, armor, and weapon refills are the least destructive family. Pedestrian riots, attack-you flags, and destroy-all-cars are the most destructive. The mission-friendly list exists so you can restock without torching a campaign.
The Definitive Edition is not the PS2 disc. Original San Andreas still has infinite health, never hungry, always midnight, and several vehicle-visual codes that later remasters removed. If you are on the 2004 PlayStation 2 disc, use the PS2 tables. If you are on a remaster, check PS2 vs PC codes before you blame the pad.
Where to go next
New to the pad? Start with how to enter cheats, then come back here and pick a game. If you already know the sting, jump straight to the disc in the tray. The guides hub holds tank, jetpack, save, and platform pages. The five-game lineup lives on the games hub. Tools for searching and for calling out fakes sit under tools.
This codes hub is the map, not the entire atlas. The child pages carry the button-by-button tables. Use them with a spare save, a D-pad, and the correct disc. That is the whole method the 2001–2007 PlayStation 2 library expects.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for DualShock 2 codes, saves, and fake lists.
Do GTA PS2 cheat codes work the same on every disc?
No. Weapon-set shapes look similar, but GTA III often starts with R2, R2, while Vice City and San Andreas often start with R1, R2. Open the child page for the game in the tray from this codes hub and do not mix lists.
Is there a money cheat or god mode in Vice City on PS2?
No. Original PlayStation 2 Vice City has health and armor, not a cash drop and not invincibility. Lists that promise either are mixing in San Andreas, GTA III, or PC words. See fake codes and the Vice City page.
Should I save after entering cheats?
Keep a clean story save on another slot. Riot and attack-you codes often cannot be toggled off. Details are on save-file warnings.
Are PS2 button codes the same as PC or The Definitive Edition?
PlayStation pad combos are not typed PC words such as HESOYAM. A few original effects were later removed from The Definitive Edition. Compare them in PS2 vs PC codes.
How do I spawn a tank or a jetpack?
The Rhino combo changes by game. The jetpack exists only in San Andreas. Use how to spawn a tank and how to get the jetpack.
Which page lists weapon set 1, 2, and 3 together?
The cross-game comparison is weapon sets. Each game page still has the DualShock string for that disc.
