GTA PS2 Cheat Codes Spawn a Rhino Tank on PS2
Per-game DualShock 2 combos, open-street placement, wanted stars, and why Vehicle of Death is not a tank.
The Rhino is the military tank in the PlayStation 2 Grand Theft Auto library. It is slow, loud, and happy to flatten sedans. It is also the cheat people mix up with “blow up every car” lists. This page is only the spawn: a hull you can enter with Triangle. If you want the jetpack instead, that is a San Andreas exclusive on how to get the jetpack. Enter these sequences in live play with the D-pad. Do not pause. Do not type PC words such as GIVEUSATANK or PANZER on a DualShock 2.
GTA III Rhino
Circle, Circle, Circle, Circle, Circle, Circle, R1, L2, L1, Triangle, Circle, Triangle
That is six Circles, then R1, L2, L1, Triangle, Circle, Triangle. GTA III is the odd one out. Vice City and San Andreas do not use six Circles. If you bring this opener into Los Santos, you will never see a tank. Full III tables sit on GTA III codes.
Claude’s Rhino still needs road space. Portland alleys and Staunton stair streets eat the node. Stand on a wide two-lane, face the empty asphalt, and enter the combo while on foot. After the sting, look beside or ahead of you, not in the sky.
Vice City and San Andreas Rhino
Circle, Circle, L1, Circle, Circle, Circle, L1, L2, R1, Triangle, Circle, Triangle
Vice City (2002) and San Andreas (2004) share this DualShock 2 spawn. Count it as Circle twice, L1, Circle three times, then L1, L2, R1, Triangle, Circle, Triangle. The doubled Circle groups are where thumbs skip. If you drop one Circle, you may activate a different cheat that also starts with Circle, or you may activate nothing.
Use the matching list after the spawn: Vice City codes or San Andreas codes. Vice City still has no money cheat and no god mode, so do not “top up cash” after the tank appears. Refill health and armor if those combos exist on that disc, then deal with stars.
Liberty City Stories Rhino
L1, L1, Left, L1, L1, Right, Triangle, Circle
The 2006 PlayStation 2 port of Liberty City Stories uses a short shoulder-and-compass sequence. Left and Right are D-pad. This combo shares a prefix with other LCS toys (faster clock, destroy cars), so the last two buttons matter. Triangle then Circle is the tank. Square or X at the end is a different effect. Toni’s streets in Portland can be narrow. Call the Rhino on a boulevard or an empty lot, not on a one-way beside a safehouse garage door.
Vice City Stories Rhino
Up, L1, Down, R1, Left, L1, Right, R1
The 2007 PlayStation 2 port of Vice City Stories uses this eight-step mix of compass and shoulders. Every direction is D-pad. Analog “Up” will fail. Vic’s Vice City has beaches and docks where vehicle nodes are fussy; prefer a city street. Full list: Vice City Stories codes.
Spawn space
The engine places the Rhino on a nearby vehicle path, not in your pocket. If you are indoors, on a rooftop, on a steep dune, or wedged between two parked cars, the sting can play and the tank can appear around a corner, inside a wall, or not at all. Walk to a clear stretch of road. Face the open lane. Stay on foot so Triangle is free to enter the hull instead of exiting a bike you forgot you were riding.
Do not stand in the exact pixel you expect the tank to occupy. Some builds spawn the Rhino on top of the protagonist and trap you in the collision. Take one step back after the sting, then approach the side and press Triangle.
If you already have a wanted level, cops will path to the noise. Clear a lane anyway. A tank that spawns in a pile-up is a tank you cannot board before it takes rocket fire in San Andreas.
Wanted stars
A Rhino is a military vehicle. Spawning one, firing the cannon, or crushing a cop car raises heat fast. GTA III can escalate toward army attention. San Andreas will bury you in stars if you sit on a downtown corner and rotate the turret. That is expected. It is not a broken code.
Have a wanted-down combo from the same disc ready, or plan to dump the tank and hide. Weapon sets from the weapons page do not remove stars. If you came here for a quiet mission skip, this is the wrong toy. Use the mission-friendly tier instead of a cannon.
Vehicle of Death versus an actual tank
Old magazines and forum titles sometimes label an explode-all-cars combo or an aggressive-traffic combo as “Vehicle of Death.” That is not a Rhino. Those sequences detonate nearby traffic, make cars hostile, or both. You will hear a sting, see fireballs, and still be on foot. The tank combos on this page are the ones that drop a hull you can enter.
San Andreas also has a smash-on-impact style effect that can explode a Rhino you already spawned if you turn that cheat on afterward. If your “tank” vanishes in a flash, you activated a destruction code, not a second spawn. Check the chaos cheats tier and the disc list before you stack vehicle cheats.
Blow-up-all-cars in GTA III (L2, R2, L1, R1, then the rest of that table) will also wreck a Rhino you are sitting in. Spawn first, board, then avoid the destruction combo unless you want a crater.
Do not save a tank rampage over a story file
A Rhino run is loud, messy, and hard on 100% pacing. Unique jumps may not count while flying-car or handling cheats sit in the buffer. Escorts fail when you flatten the target. Stat screens remember the chaos even on original PS2 hardware that has no trophies. Copy the story file to another slot, rampage on the copy, and keep the clean slot untouched. The Definitive Edition on later consoles will disable trophies on a cheated save. Original PS2 discs never had trophies, but they can still lock you into riot-tainted pedestrians if you stacked those codes during the same session. A tank is enough trouble without a permanent riot.
After the spawn
Triangle enters. Cannon and machine gun binds follow the vehicle scheme on DualShock 2 controls: look with the right stick or L2/R2, fire with Circle depending on the game, exit with Triangle. Do not tap D-pad directions unless you intend to change radio or enter another cheat; you can accidentally start a second combo while the turret is live.
If you would rather fly than crush, San Andreas is the only disc with a jetpack cheat. Everyone else is limited to flying-car toggles or story aircraft. Compare platform lists on PS2 vs PC codes so you do not type PANZER or TIMETOKICKASS on a pad that only understands Circle and L1.
When the hull is sitting in the street and the sting already played, you are done with this page. Spend stars, or reload the clean slot. Do not treat the Rhino as a new safehouse car you park in the story garage and save forever unless that copy is the sandbox file.
